Development of Our Camp Properties
The Board of Directors worked closely with the Property Committee and consultants who advised for addressing repairs, renovations, and improvements to both camps, Rancho del Chaparral and Camp Elliott Barker. Both camp properties support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience by providing a place for high quality, safe, and meaningful outdoor program opportunities.
This year, the GSNMT Board of Directors approved a master development plan—a long-range plan for the management and development of GSNMT camp properties.
Camp Elliott Barker: High Country Vision
The High Country Vision aims to establish Camp Elliott Barker as the premier national and international destination site for Girl Scout camping and high country experience in the United States.
Over the past year, camp roads were improved and facilities have been upgraded, including installing a commercial grade kitchen and bathroom facilities in Hoffman Hall to accommodate for increasing numbers of campers. Click here to see before and after images from the 2013 Annual Report. Near- and long-term goals include continuing to develop the infrastructure to support the camp, building a welcome and retreat center, and then to build a lodge to accommodate for year-round visitors.
Rancho del Chaparral: Leave a Legacy Campaign
The Leave a Legacy Campaign will revitalize and implement green environmental initiatives to ensure that Rancho del Chaparral is around for future generations of Girl Scouts.
Over the past year, roofs were replaced on several buildings, drainage around buildings was diverted, and fire hydrants and water lines were repaired. Click here to see images of these projects from the 2013 Annual Report. Future projects include continuing green initiatives, replacing and/or repairing the refrigeration and exhaust units in the dining hall, and building a welcome pavilion at Casa Grande.
