With PNM Resources Foundation’s A New Century of Service grant, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails (GSNMT) has launched Venture Days, a two day program designed to engage girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and entrepreneurial subjects in a format that matches their learning style.
Venture Days aims to give girls in lower income areas access to quality programming that provides the means to cultivate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be successful and make informed choices as they further their education.
PNM Resources Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities it serves through philanthropy focused on education by supporting nonprofit organizations. PNM has grant funded GSNMT for many years, and the girl powered nonprofit is excited to be the recipients of A New Century of Service grant for this program
GSNMT’s innovation-focused STEM curriculum encourages problem-solving through scientific reasoning. This program connects girls to advanced science, technology and engineering concepts through Mechanical Engineering and Robotics. Content is presented in a way that is meaningful to girls to develop STEM-related skills, gain confidence in their abilities to succeed in STEM subjects, and connect to women in STEM careers.
The entrepreneur curriculum focuses on five skills goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Through fun and innovative activities the girls learn how to own and grow a business, including research and development, production and marketing and customer service. Other topics cultivate entrepreneurial thinking, social innovation, invention and philanthropy.
