COVID-19 Update: New Mexico Slowly Re-Opening

COVID-19 SM

We understand that as New Mexico begins the slow process of re-opening, many of you have questions as to what this means for your Girl Scout.  Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails has carefully reviewed both the recent (May 28) New Mexico Department of Health and GSUSA guidelines and has determined that in order to we are recommending that group activities remain suspended until the state has the opportunity to evaluate how these changes are affecting public health. Recognizing that New Mexico is blessed with an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities, and that there may be activities that stay within the state's guidelines and allow your Girl Scout to continue her leadership experience with her troop leaders, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is willing to allow limited face-to-face activities, providing thoughtful consideration has been given to how the health and safety of the participants will remain the top priority.

NM Trails will require that that the Service Unit Manager or Troop Leader (depending on the activity lead), submit the  Activity Notification Form to their Regional Manager no later than 5-days prior to the scheduled activity.  The form is a fillable PDF and can be found in the forms section of the council's website.  Safetywise adult and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to (6ft apart, masks must be worn, hands washed when you arrive and when you are going to leave).  It is also recommended that the temperature of each participant be taken at the beginning of the activity, and that heavy emphasis be placed on no one participating if they are experiencing any signs of illness.

There will be no in-person, council-led events, programs, or activities through August 1, 2020.  Girl Scouts is not canceled.  We are offering more opportunities for our members to participate in Girl Scouting than ever before.  Our organization is strong, adaptive, and prepared to thrive during this new chapter.

We may be re-thinking the way we Girl Scout, but our promise and mission remain the same.  Both GSNMT and GSUSA offer enriching, engaging, and educational resources for you and your Girl Scout to continue to have a fun-filled and leadership-building Girl Scout experience.  We hope you will visit nmgirlscouts.org/gsathome to see a variety of virtual badges, patches and activities to keep your girl inspired and active during this time.
