Program Initiatives

Through direct and indirect programming, GSNMT offers girls valuable life skills and opportunities.  Our product sales programs offer girls tools and training to develop five specific skills:  goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Each of these skills will benefit girls throughout their lives.

Other initiatives GSNMT has chosen to support include outdoor programming, health and wellness, BFF (our anti-bullying program), STEM, Older Girl Programming, and Mentoring.  Each of these initiatives are designed to address gaps and/or obstacles our New Mexico Girl Scouts are facing.

In New Mexico, about 28% of school-age girls are living in poverty.

About 31% of girls 10 to 17 are overweight or obese.

Roughly 15% of girls ages 6 to 17 have experienced neighborhood violence.

  • Entrepreneurship — As entrepreneurs, girls gain essential life skills and work as a team to accomplish common goals and solve problems, while building the confidence they need to shine as girls, as young women, and as future leaders.
  • Life Skills — Girl Scout badges, beginning with Civic Engagement and expanding to Healthy Living, Communication Skills, Practical Skills, and Global Citizenship, form the foundation of activities that help girls grow as Girl Scouts.
  • Outdoor Programming — To engage girls in outdoor experiences, camp, state park visits, and other such active lifestyle choices.
  • STEM — To increase the awareness STEM careers and increase female representation in the future.

As the premier leadership organization for girls, Girl Scouts is committed to ensuring that all girls develop to their full potential.
