Ranger - Camp Elliott Barker

Position Title:     Ranger –Camp Elliott Barker- Angel Fire New Mexico

Department:      Property

Reports To:          Chief Executive Officer (CEO)


Position Summary:  The Ranger is accountable for the maintenance and 24 hours security of the camp land, property and vehicles to enhance membership and program opportunities.  The Ranger provides the support necessary to ensure a positive experience for all campers and make recommendations for property development; work with employees and volunteers individually and in groups visiting the camp; the Ranger maintains close working relationships with State of New Mexico and US Forestry departments; and other agencies associated with land management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain council camp property (land, buildings, equipment, livestock and roads) in a condition that is safe, physically accessible, environmentally sound, and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Keep records of all maintenance and logs of work completed to comply with all safety requirements, applicable government regulations, industry standards, and council and GSUSA policies, along with Camp Activity Program requirements.
  • Provide support, supervision and necessary materials or services necessary to volunteer assistance in the maintenance of the camp property.
  • Provide assistance in meeting council goals by implementing special assignments and manage special projects that enhance council programs and capital projects.
  • Provide information for the development of the property budget and keep annual expenses within the board approved operational and capital budgets.
  • Provide service by helping out with the maintenance of the program and administrative offices as needed.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of council-wide initiatives and/or cross-functional teams.
  • Keep accurate inventory and maintain records.
  • Travel required.
  • Develop positive relationships with the customers and the community.  Serve as the customer service representative on the site to include communication with all groups using the site, perform inspections of the sites used, and respond to emergencies.
  • Provide support services to other staff as requested, including but not limited to trash pick-up, parking, luggage handling, program assistance, and assisting with emergencies.
  • Work with Director of Fund Development to develop and implement maintenance and capital revenue.
  • Keep accurate financial records and prepare all financial forms and various reports in a timely manner including accounting of time worked in the past week.
  • Maintains council-provided residence in a safe, clean, and hazard free manner abiding by all the council policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws that affect the property and program held on the property.
  • Maintain good public relations with the surrounding community.
  • Provide professional, quality customer service to donor, members, volunteers, staff and other community contacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of council-wide initiatives and/or cross-functional teams.
  • Assures water system is tested regularly and well is maintained

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Administrative, managerial, time management, communication and leadership skills.
  2. Experience in the training and motivation of volunteers
  3. Budget development and budget control skills.
  4. Ability to use computers in day-to-day work.
  5. Vehicle and small/heavy equipment maintenance skills.
  6. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured and operational vehicle.
  7. Property maintenance skills, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance.
  8. Ability to achieve Water Operation Certification as required by New Mexico state law.
  9. Has initiative and ability to plan work schedules on routine basis.
  10. Ability to organize and prioritize job demands.
  11. Ability to manage financial resources effectively.
  12. Ability to manage tasks and multiple timelines in a continually changing environment.
  13. Self-motivated and a willingness to learn new skills.
  14. Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
  15. Strong customer service skills with an understanding of its significance for the furtherance of the council’s mission.
  16. Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  17. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends, and to travel throughout the council.
  18. Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages.

Work environment:

Camp Elliott Barker is a 546-acre camp facility located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains – in the Village of Angel Fire, NM.  The camp is above 8,000 feet in elevation and receives heavy snowfalls.  The ranger must be:

  • Able to work indoors and outdoors
  • Able to work in extreme cold and heat (below 30 and above 80 degrees)
  • Able to work in high altitude (8,000 + foot evaluations)
  • Able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds without assistance
  • Able to operate land maintenance equipment (tractor, chain saw, etc.)
  • Able to climb ladders, stoop, bend and carry
  • Able to work in isolated conditions

Recruitment & Retention Specialist - Santa Fe, Los Alamos, White Rock

Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails seeks a full-time Recruitment & Retention Specialist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.The position will serve Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and eastern Rio Arriba Counties.

Duties include:

  • Recruitment and retention of girls and volunteers, and promoting the organization to schools and other community partners.
  • A working knowledge of membership databases (i.e. Salesforce) is required.
  • In addition, the position will coordinate local program activities for girls, troops and volunteers.
  • Travel throughout the 2 ½ county service area is required.
  • Prior Girl Scout experience and/or knowledge is recommended.
