Girl Board Members toggle arrow

A Girl Board Member, also called Director-at-Large, is elected by the Representative Assembly for one term of two (2) years.

Serving on the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails Board of Directors gives girls in high school an opportunity to learn leadership and real-world skills needed to work in a business environment. During a Girl Board Members’ two-year term, she will learn about:

the inner workings of Girl Scouts, locally and nationally
how the Board Influences and supports girls and the Council
group dynamics and leadership
planning skills and strategy
financial accountability and oversight

Girl Board members may also be asked to join a Board Committee, speak on their experiences in Girl Scouting, or participate in other Board activities.

Current Girl Board Members

Dhavina is a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 10465 who attends Albuquerque Academy. She has been a member of Girl Scouts for 9 years, earning her Bronze Award in 2021 and her Silver Award in 2023. Dhavina is a member of the Girl Advisory Board to the CEO and also holds leadership roles on student council and the Ambassadors Club. She is excited to serve on the board of directors to help Girl Scouts improve in any way possible. “It's already an amazing program, but like anything else, there's always something you can do to improve it.”

The Girl Advisory Board to Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails works with the CEO, board of directors, and Girl Scout volunteers on key projects and initiatives aligned to council and service unit strategy and provides critical customer insight and innovative ideas to serve girls in the 21st Century.

Members of the Girl Advisory Board will make recommendations, contribute to key initiatives, participate in planning activities for other older girls, and influence decision-making processes at our council. Girls gain experience creating change in a nonprofit organization and receive hands-on training, professional development opportunities, and skill development.

Girl Advisory Board members serve for up to two years or until their high school graduation, whichever comes first.

Applicant Requirements

Enrolled in 7th – 12th grade for Fall 2024.
Registered as a Girl Scout at the time of application (if accepted, girls must renew their membership by the start of the new membership year, October 1).
Genuine interest in taking on a leadership role at the council level of Girl Scouts.
Ability to communicate with your peers and with adults using email and text messages.
Ability to work well independently and on a team.
Committed to using technology as a platform for research and communication.
