As I reflect on my first year as CEO of Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, I am filled with deep gratitude—for our girls, our volunteers, and our staff who make this Council what it is every single day.
This year has been one of transition, challenge, and meaningful progress. Together, we have taken important steps to strengthen our foundation while continuing to deliver the experiences that matter most to girls across New Mexico.
From my very first days, I had the privilege of meeting many of you—our dedicated staff, passionate volunteers, and inspiring girls. Those conversations, along with visits to troop meetings, Service Units, programs, and community events, reinforced what makes Girl Scouts so powerful: the people. You are the heart of this movement.
Strengthening Our Foundation
This year required us to make thoughtful and sometimes difficult decisions to ensure the long-term sustainability of our Council. Through focused financial discipline and strategic planning, we reduced our deficit and brought greater clarity and accountability to how we operate.
At the same time, we reimagined how we work together—aligning teams, strengthening collaboration, and setting clear goals and expectations. These changes are helping us become more agile, focused, and mission-driven.
Expanding Opportunities for Girls
Even during a time of change, our commitment to girls never wavered—in fact, it grew stronger.
We expanded our programming significantly, increasing opportunities for girls to learn, lead, and explore across New Mexico. From STEM experiences to community events and entrepreneurship opportunities, we are reaching more girls in more ways than ever before. We have increased the number of Programs by 153% and the number of girls served by 168% (From 394 girls served to 1,055)
We are also exploring new and innovative ways to deliver programs—ensuring that girls, no matter where they live, can access the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Building Community and Partnerships
This year, we strengthened relationships with donors, community partners, and leaders across our state while expanding our reach through enhanced social media engagement. Events like Birdie Bash and Starry Night brought our community together in meaningful ways, generated strong online interaction, and elevated the visibility of Girl Scouts in New Mexico. Our engagement across multiple social media platforms has increased significantly, with several posts reaching over 150,000 impressions.
We also welcomed new Board members whose expertise and leadership will help guide our future and amplify our story within the broader community.
Leading with Connection
Throughout this year, I have prioritized open communication and connection. From town halls to Service Unit meetings to time spent at Cookie Cupboards, I have had the opportunity to hear directly from many of you.
Your voices, your ideas, and your passion for Girl Scouts continue to shape our path forward.
With Gratitude
None of this work happens without you.
To our volunteers—thank you for your time, your leadership,
and the countless ways you show up for girls.
To our
staff—thank you for your resilience, your commitment, and your
belief in this mission, even during times of change.
And to our
girls—you are the reason we do this work. Your courage,
confidence, and character inspire us every day.
Looking Ahead
We are building a stronger, more sustainable future for Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails—one that expands access, embraces innovation, and ensures that every girl in our state has the opportunity to lead and thrive.
This year was about laying the groundwork. The future is about growth, possibility, and impact.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With gratitude and optimism,
Celia
